Bermuda’s Ministry of Home Affairs faces the challenge of educating and engaging the public in environmental stewardship and sustainability initiatives to bring about a shift in attitudes and behaviours that will benefit both Bermuda’s natural environment and the communities that depend on it.
The Ministry’s goal is to start by focusing on youth, beginning with those in public education, to encourage them to understand and participate in sustainability efforts, and ensure they are aware of the roles of government, non-profits, and individuals in these initiatives.
To tackle this challenge, the Government of Bermuda partnered with Muuvment to develop a comprehensive environmental education and action program for youth. This long-term program includes creating a Bermuda-focused brand and marketing/communications plans, a multi-year sustainability event strategy, and securing local sponsors.
Additionally, the government partners with local non-profits to amplify their efforts and provide students with more opportunities to engage in environmental work. Campaigns are designed with a focus on events to actively involve students in sustainability initiatives in the community.
